A 43-year-old man, Rabiu Usman, faces charges for the alleged defilement of an 11-year-old girl in Timdore, a district in Ganye Local Government Area of Adamawa State. The incident, which has sparked outrage, occurred on February 16, 2025, during a wedding ceremony in Timdore village.

The Adamawa State Police Command reported that the arrest stemmed from a referral by the Chief Magistrate Court in Ganye, following a complaint filed by the victim’s mother. According to the police, the young girl had stepped away from the wedding festivities to a nearby house to get a drink of water. There, the suspect allegedly seized the opportunity, forcibly dragging her to the back of the compound where he assaulted her.

In a statement released on Friday morning, police spokesperson SP Suleiman Nguroje detailed the harrowing event, noting that the suspect “had unlawful carnal knowledge of her.” After the assault was reported, the victim was promptly taken to a medical facility in Ganye for examination and treatment, underscoring the urgency of addressing her physical and emotional trauma.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Dankombo Morris, has vehemently condemned the act, signaling a zero-tolerance stance on such crimes. He has instructed the Officer in Charge of the Family Support Unit to assume control of the investigation, ensuring a thorough and diligent prosecution of the suspect. This directive reflects a broader commitment to justice for the victim and a warning to potential perpetrators.

The case has cast a shadow over what should have been a joyous community event, leaving residents of Timdore reeling. As the investigation unfolds, the focus remains on securing justice for the young girl and reinforcing safety measures to protect vulnerable individuals in the state.
