Police Launch Massive Rescue Operation After Abduction of Nasarawa University Students

The Nasarawa State Police Command has intensified efforts to rescue six students of the Faculty of Engineering at Nasarawa State University Keffi and another victim who were abducted by gunmen in Akwanga Local Government Area of the state.

The victims were kidnapped on Wednesday May 7 2026 when unidentified armed men ed a students’ off campus lodge located at Anguwar Ninzo in Gudi on the outskirts of Akwanga.

According to a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer Rahman Nansel the Commissioner of Police Shetima Jauro Mohammed has redeployed the Area Commander of Akwanga to coordinate field operations pending the rescue of the victims.

The statement explained that a combined security team made up of personnel from the Nigeria Police Force Department of State Services DSS military Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps NSCDC vigilante groups and other tactical units has been mobilised to track down the kidnappers and ensure the safe release of the victims.

Police authorities said the incident occurred around 9pm after the command received a distress call reporting that armed hoodlums had invaded the students’ lodge and whisked away several occupants to an unknown destination.

So far six of the abducted persons have been confirmed as students of the Faculty of Engineering at the Gudi Campus of Nasarawa State University Keffi while another victim was reportedly visiting one of the students during the .

Commissioner of Police Shetima Jauro Mohammed reportedly visited the scene for an on the spot assessment and assured students residents and the university community that security agencies remain committed to rescuing the victims unharmed.

The command urged members of the public to remain calm vigilant and security conscious while appealing to anyone with useful information that could assist ongoing rescue operations to contact the nearest police station or any security agency.

Authorities also promised to provide updates as investigations and rescue efforts continue across the affected area.
