The Nigeria Police Force has announced that following a thorough investigation into claims of National Youth Service Corps certificate forgery against the Minister of Interior Olubumi Tunji Ojo, no evidence of falsification or forgery was found.

The investigation was prompted by public concerns and protests in some parts of the country, where allegations suggested that the minister had forged not only his WAEC Secondary School certificate but also his NYSC certificate. However the Force has confirmed that these claims are unfounded.

Force Public Relations Officer ACP Benjamin Hundeyin stated, “After an exhaustive investigation into the allegations it has been elished that there is no evidence whatsoever of forgery altercation falsification or unlawful production of the minister’s NYSC certificate. The NYSC was contacted and it was verified that the certificate was duly issued by the corps to the minister. The allegations are therefore unfounded.”

Earlier this year the West African Examinations Council also authenticated Tunji Ojo’s Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination results. The attestation confirmed his full name date of birth embossed photograph original certificate number and official authentication markings.

The WAEC attestation further stated that Tunji Ojo attended Staff Secondary School at the Federal University of Technology Akure and sat for the examination in June 1999. The grades recorded include B3 in Economics B2 in Mathematics A1 in Agricultural Science B3 in Biology C6 in Chemistry C6 in English Language A1 in Yoruba Language C6 in Further Mathematics and B3 in Physics.

The clearance by both the Police and WAEC comes as a relief to the minister and his supporters reinforcing confidence in the verification systems for educational and national service credentials in Nigeria.

This development also serves to reassure the public that allegations against public officials are being thoroughly investigated and substantiated before any action is taken.
