The Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rashidi Ladoja, has intervened in the planned demolition of about 186 houses at Isokan Estate Extension in the Alao Akala Elebu area of Ibadan, Oyo State, bringing temporary relief to affected residents.

The intervention followed protests by landlords from the community who stormed the monarch’s private residence in Ibadan on Sunday. The residents alleged that rooftops of several houses were removed between Thursday and Friday ahead of a proposed demolition linked to an Ibadan High Court judgment in favour of Mogaji Olopade Taofeek Abiola, popularly known as Mogaji Oloyin.

During a follow up meeting with stakeholders held at his Bodija residence on Tuesday, the Olubadan granted affected landlords permission to repair their damaged rooftops while efforts continue to resolve the dispute. He also warned land grabbers to stay away from the disputed land, insisting that the area must not be subjected to illegal acquisition.

To address the lingering conflict, the monarch directed that fresh ground markings be carried out by independent surveyors under the supervision of the Oyo State Ministry of Lands, Housing, Survey and Urban Development. According to him, the exercise would help determine the exact boundaries of the disputed property and identify any cases of trespass.

The Olubadan further commended the Oyo State Commissioner of Police, Olugbemiga Abimbola, for deploying officers to maintain peace and prevent violence in the community.

Residents of Isokan Extension expressed fear over the destruction already recorded, stating that fences and rooftops had been damaged. They appealed for continued intervention to prevent further demolitions and possible displacement of families in the area.
