The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency has arraigned two suspected drug traffickers before a Federal High Court in Ibadan over alleged possession and transportation of illegal substances.

The suspects, Babatunde Awoyemi, 63, and Banke Adigun, 50, were charged with a four count offence bordering on unlawful dealing and possession of narcotics. They, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges brought against them.

Presiding over the case, Uche Agomoh ordered that both defendants be remanded at the Agodi Correctional Facility pending further proceedings. The court also adjourned the matter until April 27 for the hearing of their bail application.

Earlier, the prosecutor, Mrs R O Ige, told the court that the accused persons were arrested on December 8 2025 along the Lagos Ibadan expressway in Oyo State. According to her, operatives of the NDLEA intercepted the suspects while they were transporting a sack containing 770 grams of Tramadol and 47 grams of Rubnol.

She explained that both substances are classified as psychotropic drugs with effects similar to dangerous narcotics such as , , and cannabis. The prosecution added that the alleged offences contravene the provisions of Section 11C of the NDLEA Act Cap N30 Laws of the Federation 2004.

The case highlights ongoing efforts by the NDLEA to combat drug trafficking and abuse across Nigeria, as authorities continue to intensify enforcement and prosecution measures.
