The Ogun State Police Command has arrested a husband and wife for allegedly engaging in child stealing activities in the Mowe area of Ogun State. The police also rescued three children believed to have been taken by the suspects through deceptive means.

The command spokesperson, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, disclosed the development in a statement issued on Wednesday. According to the statement, the suspects were identified as Oluwarankami Kehinde Ugochukwu and her husband, Ugochukwu Mathew.

Police investigations began after a woman reported at the Mowe Division on May 17, 2026, that her four month old baby had been taken from a clinic in Mowe. The complainant explained that while she was receiving treatment, the female suspect pretended to care for the baby while the mother rested before disappearing with the child.

Following the complaint, detectives launched an intelligence driven operation and placed strategic locations under surveillance. Acting on credible information, officers traced the suspects to their hideout in the Kekere Ekun area of Mowe on May 18, 2026, where the stolen baby was rescued alongside two other children.

Preliminary findings revealed that one of the rescued children had previously been declared missing in a 2024 child stealing incident. Investigators said the child was allegedly taken from a hairdressing salon using a similar od.

The biological parents of two of the rescued children have reportedly identified and reunited with their wards. The case has now been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Eleweran, Abeokuta, for further investigation.

CP Bode Ojajuni praised the swift response of officers involved in the operation and reaffirmed the command’s commitment to fighting child trafficking and related crimes across Ogun State.
