Former Ogun State Governor and Senator representing Ogun East Senatorial District, Gbenga Daniel, has declared that he is fully prepared to contest the All Progressives Congress senatorial primary ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Daniel made the declaration during the BAT OGD Movement Mid Term Assessment Tour and Empowerment Programme held in Ijebu Ode, where he expressed confidence in his popularity and grassroots support across Ogun East.
According to the former governor, no aspirant within the APC can match his acceptance among party members and residents of the district. He stressed that the decision on who emerges as the party candidate belongs solely to APC members at the ward level.
Daniel urged party supporters not to allow intimidation or political pressure to stop them from participating in the primary election process. He stated that in a free and fair contest, he would emerge victorious with overwhelming support from party members.
The senator also alleged that certain forces within the APC were planning to intimidate members and suppress voter turnout during the primary election. He encouraged supporters to remain courageous and defend their democratic rights.
His comments come amid rising political tension between him and Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun over the Ogun East senatorial seat. Reports recently emerged that APC stakeholders had endorsed Abiodun as a consensus candidate for the district, a move that has further intensified the rivalry.
Daniel insisted that only party members have the constitutional right to determine who flies the APC flag through a democratic primary process.
The event attracted party leaders, APC members, and residents from across Ogun East. Empowerment items such as sewing machines, farming tools, fertilisers, freezers, and other equipment were distributed to beneficiaries, while free medical tests were also conducted.
The senator highlighted several developmental projects he facilitated both as governor and senator, promising that Ogun East would benefit more if he is re elected. He also accused the Ogun State government of frustrating some development initiatives meant for the district.
