The Nintendo Switch 2, launched on June 5, 2025, has experienced high demand and limited availability across the United States. Retailers such as Best Buy have been offering sporadic in-store restocks, with a confirmed drop on Tuesday, July 1. Other major U.S. retailers, including Walmart, Target, GameStop, and the My Nintendo Store, have also seen intermittent availability, often with invite-only or store pickup options. In the U.K., consumers have had slightly better luck securing the console, with restocks from Very, The Game Collection, and the My Nintendo Store.

The standalone Switch 2 is priced at $449, while the bundle with the popular launch title “Mario Kart World” is available for $499. Accessories like the Switch 2 Pro Controller and enhanced Joy-Con controllers are also in high demand. Notable games for the platform include “Donkey Kong Bananza,” “Cyberpunk 2077: Ultimate Edition,” “The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom,” and enhanced versions of classics like “Breath of the Wild.”

Amazon U.S. has yet to list the console, potentially due to disputes with Nintendo over third-party reseller practices. Shoppers are advised to act quickly during restocks and to avoid purchasing from scalpers listing overpriced units through third-party seller platforms.

Nintendo has acknowledged the high demand for the Switch 2, citing more than 2.2 million applicants during a lottery allocation. Future restocks are anticipated, including a confirmed Best Buy in-store event on July 1 and a potential Walmart restock in mid-July. Shoppers are advised to monitor retailer websites closely or utilize subscription services for early access to new stock.

In response to the high demand, Best Buy has been offering exclusive deals for My Best Buy Plus and Total members, including discounts on the Switch 2 Pro Controller and bonus rewards for purchases of Nintendo Switch 2 games and accessories.

Nintendo of America president Doug Bowser has reassured consumers that the company expects to meet demand for the Switch 2 throughout the remainder of 2025, including during key sales periods such as Father’s Day and the holiday season. This announcement contrasts with earlier hardware shortages seen with other consoles like the PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. Despite current sell-outs, Nintendo remains confident due to a steady supply of manufacturing. However, Bowser addressed concerns regarding U.S. tariffs, indicating the situation remains uncertain. While Nintendo has not raised the console’s price yet, Bowser acknowledged the company is monitoring the situation closely and exploring pricing strategies to maintain affordability, even though it has previously increased accessory prices.

For those who missed out on pre-orders, GameStop and Best Buy have additional units available in-store and online, though supplies are limited and expected to sell out quickly.

In summary, while the Nintendo Switch 2 remains in high demand with limited availability, prospective buyers are encouraged to monitor retailer websites, consider subscribing to membership programs for early access, and act swiftly during restocks to secure a unit.
