Nigerian Army Emphasises Career Planning for Operational Success

The Nigerian Army has stressed the importance of effective career planning and management of officers as a key strategy for improving operational success and addressing the country’s growing security challenges.

The Chief of Army Staff Lt Gen Waidi Shaibu made this known while declaring open the Army Headquarters Department of Military Secretary Career Planning and Management Seminar 2026 held in Abuja on Tuesday.

Represented by the Chief of Personnel Management Army Maj Gen Adewale Adekeye the army chief said the seminar theme Efficient Career Planning and Management of Officers the Key to Advancing the Transformation of the Nigerian Army Within a Joint and Multi Agency Environment was both relevant and timely.

According to him career planning and management remain critical to productivity efficiency and institutional success within the military. He explained that the cing nature of warfare requires the army to remain proactive innovative and resilient when dealing with complex and multidimensional security threats.

Shaibu noted that deploying officers based on their competencies ss and abilities would improve efficiency and enhance operational outcomes. He added that proper management of officers ensures that the army maximises their leadership potential and professional capacity.

He also stressed the need for the military to anticipate adapt and innovate in order to effectively respond to the numerous security challenges confronting the nation as directed by the Commander in Chief Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

The Military Secretary Army Maj Gen Ifeanyi Okoro in his remarks highlighted the importance of strengthening professionalism and combat readiness through effective career development processes including training postings promotions and appointments.

Okoro said the seminar was designed to reinforce sound administration and professional excellence while aligning with the command philosophy of the Chief of Army Staff to transform the Nigerian Army into a more professional adaptive and combat ready force.

The keynote lecture titled Military Human Resource Management A Catalyst for the Transformative Drive of the Nigerian Army was delivered by retired Brig Gen Aliyu Abdullahi who emphasised the role of strategic human resource management in strengthening military effectiveness.
