The Nigerian Military and the United States Africa Command have successfully carried out a joint counter terrorism operation that led to the ing of Abu Bilal Al Minuki, described as the second in command of ISIS, in the Lake Chad region.

The development was confirmed by the Federal Ministry of Foreign Affairs in a statement signed by the Ministry’s spokesperson, Kimiebi Imomotimi Ebienfa, on Saturday in Abuja.

According to the statement, the operation followed careful planning and coordinated execution by the armed forces of both Nigeria and the United States. Authorities disclosed that the mission was completed only hours before the announcement and specifically targeted Abu Bilal Al Minuki, who was reportedly linked to several deadly s on military formations in North East Nigeria.

The Ministry described the operation as another major breakthrough in the ongoing war against terrorism and insurgency in the region. It also highlighted the increasing level of cooperation between Nigeria and the United States in strengthening regional security and combating extremist groups operating around the Lake Chad basin.

The statement praised the efforts of the Nigerian Armed Forces and the support provided by the United States Africa Command in ensuring the success of the operation.

The Ministry also commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his continued commitment to national security and protecting Nigerians from terrorist threats.

It further expressed appreciation to the government of the United States for its partnership and sustained support in Nigeria’s counter terrorism operations.

Security analysts believe the elimination of Abu Bilal Al Minuki could weaken the operational strength of ISIS linked groups in the North East, especially in areas around the Lake Chad region where insurgent activities have remained a major concern for years.

The latest operation is being viewed as a significant victory for regional and international efforts aimed at restoring peace and ility in Nigeria and neighboring countries affected by insurgency.
