Nigeria has stepped up efforts to attract diaspora investment, with Abike Dabiri Erewa, Chairman and CEO of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission, declaring the country open for business at a high level gathering in the United States.

Dabiri-Erewa delivered the keynote address at the pre event dinner of the African Diaspora Investment Symposium 2026 held in Silicon Valley. She assured Nigerian professionals and global investors that Nigeria offers vast opportunities across sectors including technology, agriculture, and infrastructure.

The dinner preceded the main summit hosted at Santa Clara University and brought together leading African and international investors, innovators, and policymakers. The event, themed Bridging Africa and Silicon Valley Shaping the Future of Innovation Investment and Inclusive Growth, focused on strengthening cross continental partnerships.

In a statement issued by Abdur Rahman Balogun, Dabiri Erewa emphasized Nigeria’s commitment to leveraging the expertise, networks, and capital of its diaspora to drive economic diversification and technological progress. She highlighted ongoing reforms under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu aimed at improving the investment climate and boosting diaspora engagement.

According to her, the Federal Government is implementing policies to create an enabling environment for sustainable investments, stressing that Nigerians abroad remain vital partners in national development.

She also praised the collaborative efforts of Nigerians in the United States and acknowledged the role of the African Diaspora Network led by Almaz Negash in fostering meaningful connections between Africa and its diaspora.

At a separate working lunch, Nigerian professionals expressed readiness to collaborate with NiDCOM through innovation, investment, and knowledge transfer initiatives.

The engagements highlighted a growing shift from traditional remittances to structured long term investments, as stakeholders explored deeper partnerships between Africa and the global technology ecosystem.
