Stakeholders in the renewable energy sector recently gathered in Ibadan for a capacity building engagement aimed at improving service delivery and strengthening Nigeria’s clean energy ecosystem.
The training, organised by Nexgen Energy Hub in collaboration with its Chinese partners Techfine, brought together installers, dealers, and industry experts from across the country to discuss emerging trends, challenges, and solutions in the renewable energy space.
Speaking at the event, Nexgen Energy Head of Technical Department, Noah Ojo, said renewable energy remains a critical solution to Nigeria’s persistent power supply challenges. He explained that the engagement was designed to address the pressures faced by industry players as more consumers transition to alternative energy sources such as solar power.
According to him, the rapid adoption of renewable energy has increased demand on installers and distributors, making training and collaboration essential for improving service delivery and meeting customer expectations.
Representing Techspace Energy, Taiwo Igbasan highlighted the importance of technical knowledge in the industry, noting that the training helped participants better understand available products and their applications. He also pointed out that the renewable energy sector is experiencing significant growth, calling for stronger regulatory oversight to ensure product quality and fair pricing.
Another participant, Odekanmi Oluwadamilare of Dretech Energy, praised the initiative, saying it provided deeper insight into modern inverters and battery systems. He, however, raised concerns about the presence of unqualified technicians in the sector, warning that poor installations can lead to damage to property and equipment.
He further called for better financing structures to make solar energy more accessible and affordable for end users, while ensuring safety and professionalism in installations.
The Capacity Building Team Lead at Nexgen Energy, Kemi Aiyekitan, said the programme was inspired by feedback from industry stakeholders. She noted improvements in product availability, quality, and supply chain efficiency between 2024 and 2025, adding that the company has increased imports and strengthened communication with dealers.
Also speaking, Operations Manager of Nexgen Energy, Olawunmi Akande, said the training provided a platform for direct interaction between Nigerian dealers and Chinese manufacturers, allowing for knowledge exce and clearer understanding of market needs.
She emphasised that Nexgen Energy remains committed to continuous technological improvement and the expansion of renewable energy solutions in Nigeria, particularly in inverters and battery systems, to support the country’s transition toward more reliable alternative power sources.
The engagement underscored growing efforts within the renewable energy sector to address Nigeria’s electricity challenges through innovation, collaboration, and capacity development.
