The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board has announced plans to introduce a Bring Your Own Device option for candidates sitting for the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination starting from 2027. The new initiative is aimed at improving the examination process while reducing technical issues experienced during the yearly entrance examination.

JAMB Registrar Professor Ishaq Oloyede made the disclosure during the 2026 Policy Meeting on Admissions into Tertiary Institutions held in Abuja on Monday. According to him, candidates will be permitted to use their personal devices during the examination. He explained that a specially designed flash drive would be inserted into the devices to prevent examination malpractice and ensure the integrity of the test.

Oloyede stated that the innovation would make the examination process cheaper and easier to manage for both candidates and the board. He added that the move would also address complaints from candidates whose computers suddenly shut down during the examination.

The registrar further revealed that additional technological innovations would be introduced before 2027 to ensure seamless conduct of the UTME across the country.

Speaking on the performance of candidates in the 2026 UTME, Oloyede announced that Jesudunsin Owoeye from Ekiti State emerged as the highest scorer with 372 marks out of 400. Owoeye sat for the examination in Ogun State and selected the University of Lagos as the first choice to study Medicine and Surgery.

Ikenna Enwere from Imo State came second with 370 marks after writing the examination in Lagos State.

Enwere chose Nile University to study Computer Science. Ayomide Bamisile from Ondo State secured third position with 369 marks and selected the Federal University of Technology Akure to study Software Engineering.
