Governor Nasir Idris of Kebbi State has pledged to reintroduce soft loans for primary and secondary school teachers across the state, covering houses, cars, and motorcycles. The announcement was made on Tuesday during the inauguration of 12779 sets of furniture for public schools in Birnin Kebbi.

According to the News Agency of Nigeria, the furniture sets are designated for both teachers and students in primary and post primary schools. The governor said the initiative reflects his administration commitment to improving the welfare of teachers and creating a supportive learning environment.

Speaking at the ceremony, Idris assured educators that the government would address their challenges and restore their sense of belonging. He stated that by 2026, the state would introduce a comprehensive soft loan package for teachers in primary and post primary schools. The loans will include car loans, motorcycle loans, and house loans among other benefits.

The governor emphasized that the era of treating classroom teachers as second class citizens is over. He reaffirmed his administration dedication to providing adequate infrastructure, including the construction and renovation of schools, as well as equipping classrooms and offices with necessary furniture.

Idris directed that the furniture be distributed equally between the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education and the Universal Basic Education Board.

Earlier, Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education Halima Bande commended the governor for his holistic commitment to education and noted that his background as a teacher continues to shape his policies positively.
