The Lagos State Government has unveiled a traffic diversion plan ahead of the 11th edition of the Access Bank Lagos City Marathon, scheduled for Saturday, February 14, 2026. Residents are advised to expect road closures for up to 12 hours during the event.

Commissioner for Transportation, Oluwaseun Osiyemi, stated that the marathon will feature both 42-kilometre and 10-kilometre races running simultaneously on designated routes. The 42-kilometre race will start at Ahmadu Bello Way near MRS Gas Station and proceed along the entire Coastal Road to the finish line. The 10-kilometre race will begin at Durosimi Etti in Lekki Phase 1 and run through Ozumba Mbadiwe, Bishop Oluwole, Akin Adesola, ending at Sanusi Fafunwa.

Osiyemi said all adjoining roads, junctions, and intersections along the race routes will be closed from 12:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., with intermittent reopenings as the marathon progresses. Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) and other security agencies will manage traffic and prevent unauthorized access to the race corridors.

Residents have been urged to plan ahead, use alternative routes, and consider other modes of transportation, while exercising patience during the temporary closures. The marathon, a major annual sporting event in Lagos, continues to attract local and international participants.
