The Lagos State Government has revealed that properties valued at over N118.32 billion were saved from fire outbreaks across the state in 2025, while properties worth N19.72 billion were lost to various fire incidents during the same period.
The Commissioner for Special Duties and Inter Governmental Relations Mr Olugbenga Oyerinde disclosed this during the 2026 ministerial press briefing held at Alausa Ikeja to mark the seventh anniversary of Governor Babajide Sanwo Olu’s administration.
According to Oyerinde the impressive figures demonstrate the growing efficiency and rapid response capacity of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service alongside other emergency management agencies operating within the state.
He explained that the value of properties successfully protected from destruction exceeded the estimated losses by more than six times resulting in a net asset protection value of about N98.60 billion.
The commissioner stated that March 2025 recorded the highest value of properties saved at N12.60 billion. However the same month also witnessed the highest fire related losses estimated at N2.10 billion due to increased fire incidents recorded during the period.
In contrast August recorded the lowest level of emergency activity with properties worth N6.78 billion saved and losses standing at N1.13 billion. Oyerinde attributed the reduction in incidents during August to the peak of the rainy season which naturally lowered fire outbreak cases.
He further revealed that firefighters responded to a total of 1,685 fire calls throughout the year making fire emergencies the largest category of incidents handled by the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service in 2025.
The commissioner reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to improving emergency response systems protecting lives and properties and strengthening disaster management strategies across Lagos State.
The announcement highlights the critical role of emergency responders in reducing economic losses and ensuring public safety in one of Nigeria’s busiest commercial cities.
