The Kogi State Government has sealed the Daarul Kitab Islamic Training Centre in Zariagi Adavi Local Government Area for operating without official government approval.
The closure comes after the April 26 on the school when unidentified gunmen invaded the premises and abducted 23 pupils along with the wife of the school proprietor. All the victims were later rescued through a joint security operation involving the 12 Brigade Nigerian Army the Kogi Police Command and other security agencies.
The school was officially shut down on Friday by the State Commissioner for Education Mr Wemi Jones who led officials from the Ministry of Education to the centre for enforcement.
During the visit Jones directed the proprietor to report immediately to the Ministry of Education stressing that the institution would remain closed until it fully meets all legal requirements for elishment and operation in the state.
The commissioner reaffirmed the Kogi State Government’s commitment to ensuring that all schools operate in safe and conducive environments suitable for effective teaching and learning. He explained that the government would not compromise educational standards or allow institutions to function outside approved regulations.
According to Jones although the proprietor had already started the registration process the school should not have commenced operations before securing full government approval.
He stated that the government remains determined to monitor schools across the state to ensure compliance with safety guidelines and educational standards aimed at protecting students and improving learning conditions.
The commissioner also assured residents that the state government would continue working closely with security agencies and education stakeholders to prevent future security threats in schools and maintain public confidence in the education system.
The closure of the centre highlights the government’s renewed focus on regulating educational institutions and ensuring that all schools meet the required standards before operating within the state.
