Nollywood actress Jemima Osunde has raised serious concerns about the safety of food products available to Nigerian consumers. Taking to social media, she questioned how citizens can protect themselves from contaminated items flooding the market. “How is someone supposed to 100% avoid consuming these things?” she asked her followers.
The actress isn’t speaking from a distance. She previously revealed suffering severe health complications after allegedly eating contaminated food on a movie set in Ibadan. The incident left her battling Helicobacter pylori, a stomach-infecting bacterium, and subsequently developing Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease. These conditions, she said, plagued her health for years.
Her latest comments reflect a growing unease among Nigerians about what’s actually in their food. Are regulators doing enough? Many would say no. The actress’s public statement has reignited calls for stricter oversight of food production and distribution networks across the country.
Food safety remains a persistent challenge in Nigeria, with reports of adulterated products surfacing regularly. Osunde’s voice adds weight to demands for accountability, particularly as more people share similar experiences of falling ill after consuming everyday items.
