Jamaica FA Clarifies Cancellation of Super Falcons Friendly Over FIFA Window Issues

The Jamaica Football Federation (JFF) has explained the cancellation of the planned international friendly between Jamaica’s Reggae Girlz and Nigeria’s Nigeria Super Falcons, attributing the decision to FIFA international window regulations and administrative compliance requirements.

In a statement, the federation said the match, which was scheduled to take place in England, could not proceed because the proposed dates fell outside the official FIFA women’s international window.

According to the JFF, the friendly had been proposed for May 27, 28, or 30, 2026, but the official FIFA women’s window runs from June 1 to June 9, 2026. As a result, clubs would not have been obligated to release players for national duty during the earlier dates, making proper squad assembly difficult.

The federation stressed that its decision was based on ensuring full compliance with international football regulations and maintaining transparency in fixture arrangements. It added that the issue had been communicated to organisers early in the planning process.

The cancelled match had generated significant anticipation as a high profile encounter between two strong women’s national teams from Africa and the Caribbean.

Following the cancellation, the Super Falcons are expected to explore alternative friendly matches as part of preparations for the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations.
