Israel also issued a direct threat against Iran new Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei vowing to track and neutralize him. Military spokesperson Effie Defrin stated that no high ranking official would be beyond reach.

In response Iran President Masoud Pezeshkian condemned the ings describing them as cowardly assassinations and promised decisive retaliation. Iranian officials also mourned the death of Ali Larijani calling it a major national loss.

The conflict has expanded beyond targeted ings with strikes hitting critical energy infrastructure including the South Pars gas field. Iran warned it would retaliate against energy facilities across the Gulf raising fears of a broader regional crisis.

Global tensions intensified as Donald Trump suggested allies should take responsibility for securing the Strait of Hormuz a vital route for global oil supplies. NATO led by Mark Rutte is currently discussing strategies to reopen the route.
