Iran’s chief negotiator Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf has warned that the United States would face a severe response if President Donald Trump resumes military s against Tehran. The warning came as tensions remain high despite a fragile ceasefire that has paused the Middle East conflict since April 8.
In a statement shared on social media on Saturday, Ghalibaf said Iran had rebuilt and strengthened its armed forces during the six week ceasefire period. According to him, any renewed military action by the United States would trigger consequences far more damaging than those seen at the beginning of the war.
The latest remarks followed a high level meeting in Tehran between Iranian officials and Pakistan’s army chief, Field Marshal Asim Munir. Munir arrived in Iran on Friday as part of diplomatic efforts aimed at preventing the conflict from escalating further.
Iranian officials confirmed that Munir held extensive discussions with Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi regarding regional tensions and ongoing negotiations to secure a lasting end to the conflict. Reports from Iranian state media indicated that the talks focused on diplomatic initiatives to avoid another round of violence involving Iran, the United States, and Israel.
Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian also met with the Pakistani military leader during his visit to Tehran. Images released by Iranian authorities showed both sides engaged in discussions over regional security and possible mediation efforts.
The conflict began after coordinated s by the United States and Israel on February 28, leading Iran to launch missile and drone strikes across the region in retaliation. Since then, international efforts to restore ility have intensified, with countries such as Oman, Turkey, Iraq, Qatar, and Pakistan involved in mediation attempts.
Iran has repeatedly accused Washington of making excessive demands during negotiations, while diplomatic talks hosted in Islamabad and other backchannel discussions have so far failed to produce a final agreement.
Despite the ceasefire holding for several weeks, concerns remain that renewed military action could deilize the region once again and trigger a wider conflict across the Middle East.
