Tensions between Iran and the United States have escalated after Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps issued a 30 day ultimatum demanding an end to the US naval blockade of its ports.
The warning places pressure on US President Donald Trump to either halt the blockade or face what Iranian officials describe as a difficult choice between a costly military confrontation and an unfavorable diplomatic agreement.
The development follows a comprehensive 14 point proposal submitted by Tehran aimed at resolving the ongoing conflict. According to Iranian authorities, the plan calls for a permanent end to hostilities rather than a temporary ceasefire, alongside guarantees of non aggression and the removal of restrictions affecting Iranian shipping routes.
A key demand in the proposal is the lifting of the blockade around the Strait of Hormuz, a critical global oil transit route. Iran is also seeking broader trust building measures to ilize relations and prevent further escalation.
Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei emphasized that the proposal is designed to achieve a lasting resolution to the conflict, including ending hostilities across multiple fronts such as Lebanon.
In response, Trump confirmed that the US is reviewing the proposal but expressed uncertainty about reaching a deal. His remarks come amid ongoing frustration within Washington over previous negotiation attempts, including those mediated by Pakistan.
Despite a ceasefire agreement reached on April 8, both sides have continued hostile actions at sea, including ship interceptions and naval confrontations. The situation underscores the fragile nature of the truce and the risk of further escalation in the region.
The conflict traces back to late February when US and Israeli forces launched strikes on Iran, prompting retaliatory measures including disruptions to shipping in the Strait of Hormuz. Since then, both nations have maintained military pressure, raising concerns over global energy security and regional ility.
Analysts warn that failure to reach a diplomatic resolution within the stated timeframe could significantly impact global oil supply routes and intensify geopolitical tensions in the Middle East.
