Indonesia Expands Nationwide Disaster Preparedness Measures

Indonesia announced expanded disaster preparedness measures on January 29 2026 as authorities sought to strengthen national readiness for natural hazards. The country frequently experiences earthquakes floods volcanic eruptions and severe weather events making disaster risk reduction a major policy priority. Officials said the updated strategy focuses on improving early warning systems emergency communication networks and evacuation planning in high risk areas.

The government is also increasing funding for local response units and expanding training programs for emergency personnel and community volunteers. Enhanced coordination between national and regional agencies aims to ensure faster and more effective responses during crises. Public education campaigns are being intensified to raise awareness about disaster preparedness and personal safety.

Experts welcomed the initiative noting that climate ce has increased the frequency and intensity of extreme weather across Southeast Asia. While challenges remain in remote and densely populated regions officials said the measures are designed to reduce loss of life and economic damage.
