The Indian government has denied political clearance to Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy for his planned visit to the United States, even as it approved his concurrent trip to the United Kingdom. The decision has sparked sharp criticism from the Indian Overseas Congress USA Telangana Chapter, which expressed deep disappointment over what it characterized as an inconsistent approach to the chief minister’s foreign engagements.
Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal explained on Friday that the government routinely assesses visits by chief ministers and dignitaries before granting clearance. He stated that the proposed program should be appropriate to the office held and the purpose of the visit, adding that in this particular case, those criteria were not met for the US portion of Reddy’s itinerary. The spokesman confirmed that clearance for the UK visit had been granted without issue.
Reddy’s planned US tour was scheduled to include a major public reception in New York alongside high level engagements with leading American academic institutions. The primary objective centered on advancing Telangana’s ambition to transform Hyderabad into a global hub for education, innovation, ss, and research through strategic partnerships with prominent American universities, including Ivy League institutions.
Responding to the denial, Reddy emphasized that his visit aimed solely to bring world class educational institutions to Telangana in alignment with the Centre’s New Education Policy. He stated that such partnerships would answer youth aspirations for education and training from top global institutions, calling for thinking beyond politics when considering developmental opportunities.
