The government of India has advised foreign nationals currently residing in the country to seek visa extensions as global flight disruptions linked to the Middle East crisis continue to affect international travel. Authorities said the measure is intended to provide flexibility to those unable to depart as scheduled due to widespread cancellations and airspace restrictions.

In a statement issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs, officials acknowledged that ongoing hostilities in parts of the Middle East have significantly reduced flight availability on several international routes. Travelers transiting through affected hubs have encountered delays, rerouting, and in some cases indefinite suspensions of service. The advisory encourages eligible foreign nationals to apply for extensions through the appropriate immigration channels before their current visas expire.

Immigration authorities indicated that applications would be processed with consideration of the exceptional circumstances. Officials stressed that individuals should maintain valid documentation and avoid overstaying without formal authorization, as standard legal provisions remain in effect. Online portals and regional offices have been directed to prioritize cases where travelers can demonstrate confirmed cancellations or travel advisories impacting their return plans.

Airlines operating between India and the Gulf region have adjusted schedules in response to airspace closures over parts of Iran, Iraq, and neighboring countries. Aviation analysts note that many long haul routes between Asia and Europe pass through this corridor, meaning disruptions have extended beyond immediate conflict zones. The resulting congestion at alternative transit points has further complicated departure timelines for international passengers.

Foreign embassies in New Delhi have also issued notices to their citizens, advising them to remain in contact with consular services and to monitor updates from both Indian and home country authorities. Some diplomatic missions have arranged emergency hotlines to assist nationals facing urgent travel or documentation concerns.

Officials emphasized that the advisory does not signal a ce in India’s immigration policy but reflects a practical response to extraordinary global circumstances. They reiterated that domestic security conditions remain le and that essential services continue to function normally.

Travel experts suggest that flexibility from host countries can help mitigate stress on stranded travelers during periods of geopolitical upheaval. By encouraging timely visa extension applications, Indian authorities aim to reduce uncertainty for affected individuals while maintaining orderly immigration processes.
