The management of Igbinedion Education Centre has confirmed that two students captured in a viral video physically assaulting a fellow student have been expelled from the school.
The disturbing video, which circulated widely on social media, showed the students bullying and physically ing another student who appeared injured during the incident. The footage sparked public outrage and renewed concerns about student safety and bullying in schools.
In an official statement, the school said it was aware of the video and described the behaviour displayed as deeply disturbing and unacceptable. According to the management, the incident clearly violated the institution’s strict policies against bullying, harassment, intimidation, and any form of violence.
The school emphasised that it operates a zero tolerance policy toward misconduct involving violence, cultism, and other harmful behaviour among students.
Following an internal investigation, the two students involved in the assault were expelled with immediate effect. The management stated that such actions would never be tolerated within the school community.
The institution also assured the public that the safety and wellbeing of students remain its top priority. According to the statement, the school is providing support to the victim and is working closely with the affected families to address the situation appropriately.
Meanwhile, the Police Public Relations Officer of the Edo State Police Command, Eno Ikoedem, confirmed that the police had seen the viral footage and were aware of the incident.
However, she urged the victim and his parents to formally report the case to the police so that a proper investigation can begin.
According to Ikoedem, the police cannot proceed with a full investigation until an official complaint is filed by the victim or the victim’s family.
The school also noted that the matter has been reported to the appropriate authorities and that it is cooperating fully with security agencies. Since the students involved are minors, the institution said it is handling the situation with the required level of responsibility while ensuring that justice and student protection remain priorities.
The incident has triggered wider conversations about bullying in schools and the need for stronger monitoring systems to protect students from violence and intimidation within educational environments.
