A bill to rename Palm Beach International Airport after US President Donald Trump was approved by Florida’s Republican-led legislature on Thursday. The measure proposes cing the airport’s name to the “President Donald J. Trump International Airport,” and Governor Ron DeSantis is expected to sign it into law.
The airport, located in the affluent town of Palm Beach near Trump’s Mar-a-Lago residence, would require subsequent approval from the Federal Aviation Administration before the name ce is official.
This renaming effort is part of a broader campaign by Trump to leave a lasting imprint on US institutions. In December, his handpicked board at the Kennedy Center in Washington voted to rename the arts complex the “Trump-Kennedy Center.” The State Department also added Trump’s name to the US Institute of Peace that same month.
Trump has previously sought to rename New York’s Penn Station and Washington’s Dulles International Airport after himself, though those efforts were unsuccessful. In addition, drafts have reportedly been drawn up for a commemorative $1 coin featuring Trump’s image, despite laws prohibiting the depiction of a sitting or living president on currency.
The move has drawn national attention, with some critics calling it unprecedented, while supporters view it as recognition of Trump’s influence. On Thursday, a large blue banner with Trump’s image was displayed at the Justice Department headquarters, highlighting his ongoing high profile presence in US political and civic life.
If finalized, the Palm Beach airport would join a growing list of institutions bearing Trump’s name, underscoring his distinctive approach to personal branding and legacy building.
