Fenerbahce presidential candidate Aziz Yildirim has reportedly identified Nigerian defender Calvin Bassey as the club’s primary defensive transfer target ahead of the upcoming summer window, as the Turkish giants prepare for a major recruitment drive focused on Premier League talent.
According to reports from Turkey, Yildirim and his scouting team view Bassey as the ideal candidate for the left centre back position as part of plans to strengthen the club’s defensive structure. Senegalese defender Malick Diouf is also being considered for the left back role, while Manchester City winger Savinho is among the ing names linked with a potential move.
Bassey, who currently plays for Fulham, joined the English club from Ajax in 2023 and has since elished himself as a regular in the squad, making around 100 appearances and contributing four goals.
Born in Italy to Nigerian parents, the 26 year old defender developed through the Leicester City academy before rising to prominence at Rangers, where he won both the Scottish Premiership and the Scottish Cup. His performances have also earned him recognition at international level with the Super Eagles of Nigeria, where he has been praised for his strength and versatility.
The proposed transfer is expected to be challenging, as Bassey remains under contract with Fulham until 2027, with an additional club extension option that gives the English side strong negotiating power. Fulham reportedly consider him an important part of their long term plans.
Aziz Yildirim, who previously served as Fenerbahce president for two decades, is currently campaigning for a return to office and has promised to attract top level Premier League players if elected.
