Sevilla striker Akor Adams made an instant impact on his return from the Africa Cup of Nations, scoring twice to rescue a 2–2 draw against Elche on Monday night. The Nigerian forward came off the bench to inspire the Andalusian side and bring an end to their four-game losing streak across all competitions.

Elche started the encounter brightly and were rewarded inside the opening 15 minutes. Martim Neto split Sevilla’s defence with a precise pass that released Aleix Febas on the edge of the box, and the midfielder calmly fired past goalkeeper Odysseas Vlachodimos to give the hosts the lead. Sevilla struggled to respond and fell further behind 10 minutes into the second half when Germán Valera doubled Elche’s advantage.

Fresh from an impressive AFCON campaign with Nigeria in Morocco, Adams was introduced at the start of the second half and immediately added energy to Sevilla’s . His influence paid off when he pulled a goal back, registering Sevilla’s first competitive strike in five matches and reigniting hope of a comeback.

As the game moved into stoppage time, Sevilla were handed a lifeline when referee Ricardo de Burgos awarded a penalty for handball in the Elche box. Adams stepped up confidently and converted from the spot, completing his brace and securing a valuable point for his side.

Fellow Nigerian and AFCON participant, Chidera Ejuke, was introduced in the 65th minute and also played a role as Sevilla halted a poor run that began shortly after both players departed for the continental tournament in December.

Adams, 25, featured in all seven of Nigeria’s AFCON matches, finishing with two goals and two assists as the Super Eagles claimed the bronze medal. Sevilla coach Matías Almeyda had earlier confirmed the availability of both Adams and Ejuke following their return to Spain, a decision that proved decisive on the night.
