Samuel Chukwueze Could Hold the Key to AC Milan’s Summer Transfer Strategy Under Amorim

Samuel Chukwueze, once dismissed as a peripheral figure at AC Milan, has suddenly become central to the club’s summer planning. The Nigerian winger, who spent much of last season in the shadows at Fulham, now finds himself holding considerable influence over how the Rossoneri shape their ing options under new manager Ruben Amorim. Few would have predicted such a dramatic shift in fortunes for a player who struggled for consistent opportunities in the Premier League, yet here Milan stand in mid July with Chukwueze firmly in their calculations.

His statistics from Fulham tell an intriguing story. Despite limited playing time under Marco Silva, Chukwueze registered three goals and four assists across the Premier League season. That production rate, delivered in roughly 1,000 minutes, translates to a goal contribution every 142 minutes. Perhaps most tellingly, those numbers surpass what Christian Pulisic achieved before his own move to San Siro and exceed every season the American has posted in Italy save for one campaign in Spain. For a player often characterized as inconsistent, such figures demand attention. They suggest untapped potential waiting for the right tactical system and manager willing to unlock it.

Amorim has already signaled his intentions during his unveiling press conference, singling out Chukwueze by name and outlining exactly why the winger fits his vision. The Portuguese manager emphasized his need for players capable of winning individual duels, particularly wide ers who can invert onto their stronger foot. Chukwueze, naturally left footed operating from the right flank, represents precisely that profile. Amorim’s comments about Pulisic, praising his ability to make the difference with a capital D against defensively organized Italian sides, apply equally to the Nigerian’s s set. Both wingers possess the pace and technical ability to break down compact defenses through individual brilliance.

What makes Chukwueze’s situation particularly interesting is the absence of internal competition for his preferred role. Pulisic appears destined for the left wing, meaning Milan could field both ers simultaneously rather than forcing them into direct rivalry. Operating behind a central striker, Chukwueze could provide the complete package of assists and occasional goals while benefiting from familiarity with the club’s environment and expectations. That institutional knowledge removes one significant obstacle that typically confronts new signings. At 25 years old, he remains young enough to experience a genuine breakthrough season, and Amorim clearly believes the conditions exist for exactly that transformation.

Yet legitimate reservations temper the optimism surrounding this potential redemption arc. Reports have surfaced suggesting Milan might experiment with deploying Chukwueze as a wing back in Amorim’s system, a positional shift that carries substantial risk. Converting ing players into defenders rarely produces immediate success, and Milan cannot afford experimental solutions to structural problems. If the right wing back position requires reinforcement, signing a natural defender represents sounder strategy than hoping an untested tactical conversion succeeds. Such gambles merely postpone inevitable problems rather than solving them.

Beyond positional questions, concerns about consistency and injury history follow Chukwueze wherever he goes. His career has been marked by flashes of brilliance interspersed with frustrating stretches of mediocrity or absence through physical setbacks. Milan face a demanding season ahead where every squad member must justify their place through performance. Passengers cannot be accommodated, and Chukwueze has yet to prove himself definitively in Rossoneri colors despite his earlier promise at Villarreal. Amorim faces a clear decision point: trust in the underlying talent and create conditions for success, or pursue alternatives in the transfer market. How that judgment plays out over the coming weeks will significantly shape Milan’s ing options for the entire campaign. Whether Chukwueze seizes this opportunity or watches it slip away will define not just his career trajectory but potentially Milan’s competitive prospects as well.
