The Federal Ministry of Works has announced the partial closure of sections of the Ikorodu Sagamu Road starting from Monday as reconstruction work on the busy highway enters a critical stage. The move is aimed at speeding up the completion of the ongoing road rehabilitation project and improving travel conditions for motorists and commuters.

The Federal Controller of Works in Ogun State, Mr Olayiwola Komolafe, disclosed this in a statement released on Saturday. According to him, the decision followed a directive from the Minister of Works, Senator Dave Umahi, instructing Messrs Arab Contractors to immediately resume work on important sections of the road to ensure timely delivery of the project.

The affected areas include the stretch from Ikorodu Roundabout to Sabo Junction in Lagos as well as the section from Cement to Coca Cola inward in Sagamu. Authorities explained that traffic heading from Ikorodu to Sagamu would be redirected through designated construction corridors under a counterflow traffic arrangement.

Komolafe noted that the reconstruction exercise is expected to last for three months. He added that the period would allow contractors to carry out major road works and ensure proper curing of the rigid pavement being installed on the highway.

To ease traffic congestion and maintain order during the construction period, officers of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority will be deployed across the affected routes. Motorists have been advised to cooperate fully with traffic officials and law enforcement personnel to avoid unnecessary delays and ensure smooth movement.

The ministry also appealed to road users for patience and understanding, expressing regret over the inconvenience the reconstruction work may cause. Officials assured the public that the project would significantly improve road safety, reduce travel time, and enhance transportation activities along the important corridor once completed.
