The European Union has approved 153 million euros in new humanitarian assistance for Ukraine and additional support for neighboring Moldova as the conflict continues to strain civilian populations and public services. EU officials said the funding package was confirmed during meetings in Brussels on January 30 and will focus on emergency shelter healthcare food assistance and winter support.
European authorities said the aid is aimed at helping vulnerable communities affected by infrastructure damage power disruptions and displacement. Moldova will receive targeted assistance to manage the spillover effects of the war including refugee support and pressure on social systems.
EU leaders stressed that humanitarian assistance remains a priority alongside diplomatic and economic measures. Aid agencies welcomed the announcement but warned that needs on the ground continue to grow as winter conditions worsen and fighting persists in parts of Ukraine.
The funding is part of a broader EU commitment to sustain long term support for countries affected by the conflict while reinforcing regional ility.
