The European Parliament has postponed a key vote on whether to restart work on a proposed trade agreement between the European Union and the United States, reflecting ongoing political divisions within the bloc. Lawmakers cited unresolved concerns over standards, regulatory alignment and broader political implications as reasons for the delay.

Officials familiar with the discussions said several parliamentary groups called for more time to assess the potential economic and social impact of reviving the trade talks. Issues related to labor protections, environmental safeguards and digital regulation remain central to the debate, with critics warning against rushing into negotiations without stronger guarantees.

The delay comes amid cing transatlantic dynamics and renewed interest from some EU member states in strengthening economic ties with Washington. Supporters of the deal argue that c trade cooperation could boost growth, improve supply chain resilience and reinforce strategic partnerships.

However, opponents say public trust and transparency must be prioritized before any negotiations resume. The European Parliament is expected to revisit the issue in the coming weeks after further consultations with the European Commission and national governments.
