Ebem Ohafia Community in Ohafia Local Government Area of Abia State has imposed a ban on the consumption of hard drugs, cultism, violence and other criminal activities within the area as part of efforts to restore peace and order.
The decision was announced by the Ebem Ohafia youths in collaboration with the Central Executive Council of the Ebem Ohafia Development Union, with the full backing of the Ebem Council of Chiefs and Elders.
The new security directives were contained in a statement issued on Tuesday by the Publicity Secretary of the Ebem Ohafia Community, Mr. Ifeanyi Okali. According to the statement, the community has prohibited the sale, use and trafficking of hard drugs and other illicit substances, warning that offenders will face stiff fines and disciplinary measures, irrespective of their status.
“The community has also issued a final warning on cultism, directing all persons involved to renounce such activities or face severe community sanctions and prosecution,” the statement read.
It further directed all criminal elements using Ebem Ohafia as a hideout to vacate the community immediately, adding that any indigene found harbouring such individuals would be held accountable.
The community also banned fighting with weapons, brandishing of firearms and the firing of gunshots, noting that violators would be handed over to security agencies, face heavy fines and be subjected to additional community sanctions.
In enforcing the directives, the community resolved that Ndi Ikwu (compounds) would be held responsible for defaulters within their areas, including possible suspension from hosting ceremonies.
Additionally, traders operating along the Ebem Police Station/Court Road and within the Ebem Daily Market were warned against blocking gutters, walkways and designated free zones. Any violation, the community warned, would attract immediate impoundment of goods.
The community leadership called on residents and visitors to comply fully with the directives, stressing that enforcement would be strict and uncompromising.

I think its great that Ebem Ohafia is taking a strong stand against these issues. Other communities should follow suit.
