A member of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Desmond Elliot, has dismissed reports suggesting a breakdown in his relationship with the Chief of Staff to President Bola Tinubu, Femi Gbajabiamila.
Elliot stated that he remains loyal to both Tinubu and Gbajabiamila despite rumours of political disagreements.
The lawmaker representing Surulere Constituency explained that democracy should not be treated like a military system where junior political figures openly challenge their leaders.
According to him, the political stature of Tinubu and Gbajabiamila is too significant for him to undermine or disrespect.
Elliot described Gbajabiamila as more than just a political associate, noting that he sees him as a father figure and mentor. He added that disagreements are natural in every relationship and should not be exaggerated by the public.
“I don’t only have a relationship with Gbajabiamila. He is my boss. I’m loyal to him, and he loves me like a son,” he said.
The actor turned politician further explained that he was not expecting anyone to mediate in any perceived misunderstanding between him and the former Speaker of the House of Representatives.
He added that just like in a family, a child can apologise to a father and wait patiently for reconciliation without trying to dictate the process.
Elliot also denied suggestions that he would ever abandon Gbajabiamila politically, insisting that his loyalty remains intact.
When asked about the reported tension involving the Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly and the presidency, the lawmaker declined to speak extensively on the matter, saying it was beyond his authority.
According to him, his priority now is strengthening grassroots support for the All Progressives Congress and ensuring Tinubu secures a second term in 2027.
Elliot stated that he wants the president to complete projects and leave behind a lasting legacy that Nigerians would appreciate in the future.
He also admitted that recent political developments have brought him c to God, stressing that leadership requires spiritual guidance and wisdom.
