The Adamawa and Taraba Command of the Nigeria Customs Service has reaffirmed its zero tolerance stance against smuggling, announcing the seizure of contraband goods valued at about ninety eight million naira within a six week period.

The Comptroller of the Command, Mohammed Mato, disclosed this during a media briefing in Yola, the Adamawa State capital. He explained that the interceptions, carried out between February and April 2026, included a range of prohibited and unregulated items such as second hand clothing, raw donkey skin, dried donkey meat, petroleum products and unregistered pharmaceutical goods.

According to Mato, on February thirteen, customs operatives acting on intelligence intercepted forty three jumbo sacks of second hand clothing, along with cartons and packages of Viagra tablets along the Savannah Nunan road.

He further revealed that on March twelve, officers seized five hundred pieces of raw donkey skin and four hundred and sixty kilograms of dried donkey meat along the Mubi Sangere axis. The following day, along the Likitaba Gembu route in Taraba State, one hundred and ten jerricans of Premium Motor Spirit were confiscated.

Additional seizures were made on March fifteen, when five hundred and twenty jerricans of PMS and one hundred and twelve jerricans of Automotive Gas Oil were intercepted along the Mubi Saguda road. On April eleven, another one hundred and seventy six jerricans of PMS were seized near the Cameroon border along the Ganye Toungo highway.

Mato stated that the operations were conducted in line with the Nigeria Customs Act 2023, which empowers the service to curb illegal exportation of restricted goods including petroleum products and wildlife derivatives.

He warned that offenders would face strict legal consequences and urged those involved in smuggling to pursue lawful business activities, noting that such illegal practices threaten national security and economic ility.
