Chad has closed its eastern border with Sudan following deadly cross border clashes that left solrs and civilians dead, in a move that underscores mounting tensions along the fragile frontier. Authorities in N Djamena announced the immediate sealing of border crossings after reports of armed confrontations spilling across national lines.

Government officials said the decision was taken to safeguard territorial integrity and prevent further escalation. Security forces have been deployed to reinforce key transit points, while aerial surveillance and ground patrols have been intensified in affected areas.

The clashes reportedly involved armed elements operating near disputed zones where communities have long shared ethnic and trade ties. Local residents described scenes of panic as gunfire erupted, forcing families to flee toward safer inland locations.

Chad has called for restraint and urged Sudanese authorities to investigate the circumstances surrounding the violence. While diplomatic channels remain open, the closure of the border signals deep concern about the potential for broader deilization.

Humanitarian agencies warn that the shutdown could disrupt vital supply routes used for food, fuel, and medical deliveries. The eastern corridor has also served as an escape path for civilians fleeing conflict in Sudan, raising fears that vulnerable populations may now face additional hardship.

Analysts note that the security vacuum created by ongoing inility in Sudan has increased the risk of cross border incidents involving armed groups and smuggling networks. The coming days will be critical in determining whether diplomatic engagement can prevent further deterioration.
