The government of Cambodia has urged media outlets and regional stakeholders to exercise caution and responsibility in reporting on landmine related developments along the border with Thailand. Officials said inaccurate or sensational accounts risk heightening tensions and undermining bilateral cooperation in sensitive border areas.

In a statement issued through its national civil defence authorities, Cambodia emphasized that landmine clearance and monitoring activities along the frontier remain ongoing and are being conducted in coordination with relevant agencies. The government reiterated its longstanding commitment to humanitarian demining efforts and to ensuring the safety of communities residing near historically contested zones.

The Cambodia Thailand border has experienced periodic disputes in past decades, though both governments have in recent years sought to manage differences through diplomatic dialogue and joint mechanisms. Officials in Phnom Penh stressed that any reporting on explosive remnants of war should be grounded in verified information and should avoid language that could inflame public sentiment.

Landmines remain a legacy of decades of conflict in Cambodia, which was heavily affected during civil war periods and regional hostilities in the twentieth century. Despite significant progress in clearance operations, unexploded ordnance continues to pose risks in rural and border areas. Authorities said cooperation with international partners has enabled the safe destruction of thousands of explosive devices, but full eradication requires sustained technical and financial support.

Cambodian civil defence representatives underscored that transparent communication between neighboring countries is essential in addressing security concerns linked to landmines. They noted that misinformation could disrupt ongoing coordination efforts and create unnecessary alarm among border communities.

Thai officials have not publicly disputed Cambodia call for careful reporting, though observers say both sides remain attentive to domestic sensitivities when border issues arise. Analysts view the appeal as part of a broader effort to preserve le bilateral relations while addressing humanitarian concerns linked to explosive remnants of war.

International organizations involved in demining initiatives have long advocated responsible public communication, arguing that clear and accurate information supports risk awareness without provoking fear. In Cambodia, continued investment in education campaigns and clearance programs has significantly reduced casualties over the past two decades.

The government reaffirmed its intention to work closely with Thailand and global partners to advance demining objectives and to promote peace and development in border provinces. Officials concluded that measured reporting and cooperative diplomacy remain key to ensuring that historical challenges do not evolve into renewed political friction.
