The Government of Canada has announced an increase in application fees for permanent residence and citizenship, affecting Nigerians and other foreign nationals seeking to move to the country.

Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) stated on X on Monday that the new fees will take effect from April 30, 2026. Applications submitted on or after this date will be subject to the revised charges.

Under the update, the Right of Permanent Residence Fee will rise by $25, increasing from $575 to $600. The Provincial Nominee Program fee will go up by $40, from $950 to $990. Business class applications will see an $85 increase, moving from $1,810 to $1,895. Family class applications will rise by $25 to $570, while Protected Persons will also pay $25 more, bringing their fee to $660.

Applicants applying under Humanitarian and Compassionate grounds or other public policy measures will experience a $25 increase, with fees now set at $660. Permit holders will also face a $15 increase, from $375 to $390.

IRCC explained that these adjustments are routine and occur every two years under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Regulations. The increases are designed to offset the cost of running immigration programs and respond to growing demand for permanent residence and citizenship in Canada.

The agency urged applicants to plan ahead and submit their applications accordingly to avoid delays or confusion with the updated fee structure.
