Atiku Says Morocco Trip Was Personal and Not Political

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has clarified that his recent trip to Morocco was strictly personal and had no political connection, dismissing speculations surrounding the visit.

In a statement released by his Senior Special Assistant on Public Communication, Phrank Shaibu, Atiku’s media office explained that the former Vice President travelled to Marrakech to attend and chair a wedding ceremony on Saturday.

According to the statement, Atiku presided over the wedding ceremony of Cherina and Muna Okey Ezeibe in the Moroccan city. The event, it noted, was based on a longstanding personal relationship between Atiku and the groom’s family rather than any political arrangement.

Shaibu explained that the groom’s father, Mr. Okey Ezeibe, has maintained a close friendship with Atiku for many years, making the former Vice President’s presence at the ceremony a personal commitment.

Speaking during the wedding ceremony, Atiku described marriage as a sacred institution founded on love, patience, sacrifice, and mutual respect. He also prayed for peace, happiness, and prosperity for the newly married couple as they begin their journey together.

The ceremony attracted dignitaries, family members, and notable personalities from different parts of Africa. The event also gained continental attention because of the presence of the bride’s father, Mr. Lassina Zerbo, the former Prime Minister of Burkina Faso.

Phrank Shaibu stated that the gathering in Marrakech reflected African unity, friendship, and cultural connection among respected families from across the continent. He stressed that attempts to attach political meaning to the trip were unnecessary and misleading.

The clarification comes amid public speculation over Atiku’s movements and engagements ahead of future political activities in Nigeria.
