The Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. Waidi Shu’aibu, on Friday inaugurated three renovated blocks of family flats for solrs at the Ribadu Cantonment, providing improved housing for military personnel and their families.
Each of the renovated blocks contains 30 flats, bringing the total to 90 fully refurbished units. The initiative aligns with the Army’s ongoing commitment to enhancing the welfare and living conditions of its personnel.
Speaking at the ceremony, Shu’aibu, represented by Maj.-Gen. Abubakar Wase, General Officer Commanding 1 Division and Commander, Sector 1, Operation Fansan Yamma, explained that the blocks were previously occupied but had deteriorated over time. Residents were temporarily relocated to allow for renovations.
“I approved the funds for the project as part of our vision to prioritise solrs’ welfare and enhance their living conditions,” Shu’aibu said. “This is one of several renovation projects executed across formations, while new accommodation blocks are also under construction to address housing deficits.”
He further urged the beneficiaries to maintain the facilities to ensure their sustainability.
One of the beneficiaries, Mrs Fumilayo Yonde, speaking on behalf of residents of Block 20, described the previous state of the flats as deplorable, with falling debris posing risks to occupants. She commended the Army leadership for the timely intervention and pledged that residents would ensure proper maintenance of the renovated facilities.
The renovation projects were completed in just three months, reflecting the Army’s efficiency in delivering welfare initiatives for its personnel.
