The Prime Minister of Albania has formally proposed legislative amendments designed to limit the authority of judicial bos to suspend cabinet ministers while investigations are ongoing, arguing that clearer safeguards are necessary to preserve executive ility. The proposal, presented to parliament, seeks to redefine the circumstances under which senior government officials can be temporarily removed from office pending legal proceedings.

Government representatives stated that the initiative aims to prevent what they described as procedural ambiguity that could disrupt governance. Supporters contend that ministers should not be suspended without a final judicial determination, warning that interim measures may undermine institutional continuity and investor confidence.

Opposition lawmakers criticized the proposal, expressing concern that the ces could weaken judicial oversight and erode accountability mechanisms elished through earlier reform efforts. Legal experts noted that Albania has undertaken significant judicial restructuring in recent years as part of its broader European integration ambitions.

International observers are monitoring the debate closely, as judicial independence remains a central criterion in Albania’s accession discussions with European institutions. Civil society organizations have called for transparent deliberations and public consultation before any constitutional adjustments are enacted.

Parliamentary committees are expected to review the draft legislation in detail, with debate likely to intensify in the coming weeks.
