Real Madrid have fined Aurelien Tchouameni and Federico Valverde 500,000 euros each following a training ground altercation that reportedly left Valverde requiring hospital treatment.
The Spanish club confirmed the punishment on Friday, stating that no sporting sanctions would be imposed on either player. According to the club, the financial penalties conclude the internal disciplinary procedures launched after the incident.
Valverde is expected to miss Sunday’s El Clasico clash against Barcelona because of the head injury sustained during the confrontation. Real Madrid said the midfielder could be sidelined for up to two weeks.
Meanwhile, Tchouameni returned to training on Friday and remains available for selection ahead of the crucial La Liga encounter at Camp Nou.
In an official statement, Real Madrid explained that both players expressed remorse over the incident and apologised to each other, the club, teammates, coaching staff, and supporters. The club added that both footballers accepted responsibility and agreed to comply with any disciplinary measures considered appropriate.
Reports from Spain claimed Valverde was taken to a hospital near Real Madrid’s Valdebebas training complex accompanied by coach Alvaro Arbeloa after suffering a facial injury that required stitches.
Valverde later attempted to calm speculation surrounding the clash, saying frustration and competitive pressure caused the disagreement to escalate. He insisted the injury happened accidentally after he struck a table during the argument and denied claims that either player physically ed the other.
Spanish media reported tensions between both players began during training on Wednesday and continued into Thursday’s session, eventually leading to a dressing room confrontation.
The incident comes at a difficult period for Real Madrid as the club risks ending another season without a major trophy. Barcelona currently lead the La Liga standings by 11 points and could secure the title this weekend.
