Adelabu Set to Resign as Power Minister to Pursue Governorship Ambition

Adebayo Adelabu is expected to resign from his position as Minister of Power in the coming days following approval from Bola Tinubu to pursue his governorship ambition. This development was disclosed by Tunji Bolaji in a statement issued in Abuja on Wednesday.

According to Bolaji, the minister recently met with President Tinubu at the Presidential Villa where he presented a detailed report on his performance in the power sector over the past two and a half years. The president reportedly commended Adelabu for his dedication and acknowledged the progress made in laying a solid policy foundation for reforms in Nigeria electricity sector.

Bolaji explained that the timing of the anticipated resignation reflects Adelabu commitment to addressing critical challenges in the sector before exiting office. During the meeting, the minister highlighted key achievements including efforts to ilise electricity generation improve transmission capacity and implement reforms aimed at enhancing efficiency across the value chain.

A major highlight of the engagement was the presentation of the National Integrated Electricity Policy and its Strategic Implementation Plan. These frameworks are designed to guide long term development of the power sector ensure energy security expand access to electricity and promote renewable energy integration.

The Strategic Implementation Plan outlines clear actions timelines and institutional responsibilities required to achieve measurable results. It also prioritises interventions across generation transmission and distribution while addressing regulatory reforms investment mobilisation and capacity development.

Adelabu also expressed appreciation to the president for his continued support reaffirming his commitment to sustainable reforms in the sector even as he prepares to transition into a new political pursuit.
