Peter Obi’s departure from the African Democratic Congress has been described as painful by party chieftain Ndubuisi Nwobu, who insisted that the party has moved forward and remains focused on future political goals.

Nwobu, who served as the running mate of the ADC in the 2025 Anambra governorship election, made the remarks during a consultative meeting of party leaders in Awka.

According to him, the party still maintains strong support and high morale in Anambra despite recent political realignments. He wished Peter Obi and other politicians who left the ADC success in their new political platforms while expressing hope that opposition parties may eventually reunite to strengthen efforts ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Nwobu stated that opposition politicians must recognise that division weakens their chances of success. He stressed the importance of unity and strategic collaboration among opposition figures if they hope to challenge the ruling elishment successfully in 2027.

The former chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party in Anambra added that there is still a possibility for cooperation between opposition groups before the next election cycle.

During the meeting, party leaders revealed that nine aspirants had already obtained nomination forms to contest for seats in the House of Representatives, while six others picked forms for the Anambra State House of Assembly elections.

Nwobu said the growing number of aspirants demonstrates that the ADC continues to expand and strengthen despite the exit of prominent figures.

The party leadership also reaffirmed support for the national leadership of the ADC led by David Mark and Rauf Aregbesola. They also praised founding national chairman Ralph Nwosu for his role in positioning the ADC as a coalition platform for opposition movements.
