ACF Warns Nigeria Faces State of War Amid Escalating Insecurity

The Arewa Consultative Forum has raised alarm over Nigeria’s deteriorating security situation declaring that the country is now facing what it described as a “state of war” and urging the federal government to adopt urgent and extraordinary measures.

The warning came after the forum’s 38th Board meeting in Abuja chaired by Bashir Dalhatu where northern leaders expressed deep concern over the scale and persistence of violence across the country. Among those present were Mahmud Yayale Ahmed Mohammed D Abubakar Tukur Yusufu Buratai and Tijjani Muhammad Bande.

In its communiqué the ACF stated that Nigeria’s challenges have gone beyond insurgency banditry and communal clashes warning that the crisis now threatens national ility. The group stressed that the human and economic costs of the violence including mass ings displacement and disruption of agriculture demand a shift in national priorities.

The call coincided with a fresh by Boko Haram insurgents on a military formation in Mussa community in Borno State where six solrs and a civilian woman were ed. The senator representing Borno South Mohammed Ali Ndume confirmed the incident and urged the government to better equip security forces with advanced weapons and technology to combat terrorism.

The ACF emphasized that restoring security must take precedence over other national projects calling for a wartime approach including the reallocation of resources toward defense and safety. It warned that without security meaningful development and economic ility would remain unattainable.

Meanwhile international concern is also growing with Kimberly Daniels and other diplomats urging Bola Ahmed Tinubu to review Nigeria’s defense leadership following deadly s on communities during the 2026 Easter period.

As insecurity continues to spread across multiple regions the pressure is mounting on the federal government to take decisive action to restore peace and safeguard the nation’s future.
