Vice President Kashim Shettima has emphasized the Federal Government’s dedication to ongoing reforms in Nigeria’s power sector during the 20th anniversary celebration of the Niger Delta Power Holding Company (NDPHC) held at the State House Banquet Hall in Abuja.
Shettima praised NDPHC’s important role in national development over the past two decades and highlighted the Electricity Act 2023 as a landmark development for the sector. He explained that the new legislation grants NDPHC clearer legal authority, improved commercial credibility, and a stronger institutional foundation to compete and grow in a more open and dynamic energy market.
As Chairman of the NDPHC Board, Shettima described the anniversary as a moment for the company’s transformation from an integration-focused entity to a commercially disciplined, market-oriented enterprise while staying true to its national mission.
He outlined the board’s priorities, which include maximizing value from existing assets, strengthening contracts and market engagement, ensuring governance-driven commercialization, managing risks responsibly, and investing in human capital.
“As Chairman, I wish to state unequivocally that the board remains fully committed to its responsibilities. We will continue to provide strategic direction, uphold the highest standards of governance, support management in taking sound and accountable decisions, protect shareholder value on behalf of the Nigerian people, and keep NDPHC aligned with national energy and development goals,” Shettima affirmed.
He also commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for restoring investor confidence in the power sector, describing the president as “a magician working not with illusion, but with discipline and reform,” who has created an enabling environment for institutions like NDPHC to flourish.
