UN Security Council Condemns Iran strikes on Gulf States and Jordan

The United Nations Security Council on Wednesday adopted a resolution strongly condemning strikes carried out by Iran against countries in the Gulf Cooperation Council as well as Jordan. The decision reflects growing international concern over rising tensions and the threat posed to ility in the Middle East.

The resolution was approved with 13 votes in favor, while Russia and China chose to abstain from the vote. Despite the abstentions, the measure received broad international backing and was co sponsored by a large number of countries.

The resolution was presented by Bahrain and supported by 135 member states of the United Nations. In the document, the Council emphasized strong support for the territorial integrity, sovereignty, and political independence of the Gulf states and Jordan. The statement underlined the importance of protecting national borders and maintaining peace across the region.

Council members strongly condemned what they described as serious strikes carried out by the Islamic Republic of Iran against the Gulf countries and Jordan. According to the resolution, such actions represent a breach of international law and pose a major threat to international peace and security.

The resolution also criticised the targeting of civilian infrastructure during the strikes. It noted that strikes against non military facilities resulted in civilian casualties and caused damage to homes, buildings, and other essential structures used by the public.

Following the vote, Jamal Fares Alrowaiei, the United Nations envoy for Bahrain, welcomed the decision by the Security Council. He said the adoption of the resolution demonstrates the Council’s commitment to maintaining international peace and security.

Alrowaiei also expressed appreciation to all United Nations member states that supported the measure. According to him, the large number of co sponsoring countries shows strong international unity and concern regarding the situation.
