Troops of the 3 Division of the Nigerian Army, operating under Operation Safe Haven, have apprehended a suspected cattle rustler and seized arms, ammunition, and stolen cattle during a clearance operation in Mangu Local Government Area of Plateau State. The mission, executed as part of Operation Lafiyan Jama’a, targeted criminal elements based on actionable intelligence regarding activities near the Youth Centre at the Sabon Layi axis of Mangu.

In a statement released on Sunday, the military detailed how troops clashed with a cattle rustling syndicate in a firefight, forcing the criminals to abandon their loot and scatter. “During the operation, troops arrested one Nashak Wilson, 29, from Jwakkom Village in Mangu LGA, who was armed with an AK-47 rifle loaded with two rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition,” the statement disclosed. The troops also recovered 30 rustled cows, which were subsequently returned to their rightful owner, Alhaji Yakuba Musa from Kwahas Village.

The suspect, along with the confiscated arms, remains in military custody as investigations continue. Security forces have ramped up efforts to track down the fleeing members of the syndicate, signaling a sustained push to curb cattle rustling and related crimes in the region.
