Africa’s internet landscape is evolving rapidly, powered by mobile network expansion, fibre-optic infrastructure, and emerging tech hubs. Reliable connectivity is no longer a luxury but a necessity for streaming, business, and remote work. However, progress remains uneven across the continent.

According to the latest Speedtest Global Index, the fastest mobile internet speeds in Africa are led by Morocco, followed by South Africa, Tunisia, Algeria, and Kenya.

1. Morocco – 123.87 Mbps
Morocco tops the continent with mobile internet speeds of 123.87 Mbps. Strong investment in telecom infrastructure and 4G expansion has also boosted its fixed broadband performance, ranked 105th globally, with downloads at 56.27 Mbps, uploads at 53.35 Mbps, and low latency of 9 ms.

2. South Africa – 65.70 Mbps
South Africa averages 65.70 Mbps on mobile networks, ranking 64th globally. Fixed broadband delivers downloads of 48.34 Mbps and uploads of 39.15 Mbps, with minimal latency of 7 ms, making it ideal for businesses and remote work.

3. Tunisia – 57.30 Mbps
Tunisia offers mobile speeds of 57.30 Mbps, though fixed broadband lags with 18.88 Mbps downloads and 7.32 Mbps uploads, ranking 145th globally. Latency is moderate at 20 ms.

4. Algeria – 50.65 Mbps
Algeria records 50.65 Mbps on mobile networks, while fixed broadband delivers 53.62 Mbps downloads and 20.44 Mbps uploads. Low latency of 7 ms supports smooth connectivity, ranking 109th globally for fixed broadband.

5. Kenya – 45.37 Mbps
Kenya’s mobile internet averages 45.37 Mbps, with fixed broadband downloads at 15.70 Mbps and uploads at 16.24 Mbps, ranking 149th globally. A mobile-first ecosystem, driven by widespread smartphone use and platforms like M-Pesa, underpins Kenya’s growth.

These rankings highlight the strides African countries are making in digital infrastructure, even as gaps remain in fixed broadband coverage and global competitiveness.
